Quick turnaround for Tigers as Clemson opens NCAAs Tuesday

By Bud L. Ellis

The Clemson Tigers get a jump-start on the NCAA tournament. While most of the field of 68 gets a few extra days to prepare for the Big Dance, the Tigers have very little time to get ready for their NCAA opener.

Clemson takes on Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday in Dayton, in one of the four new NCAA first-round games. Beating UAB will send the Tigers to Tampa to take on West Virginia on Thursday. (Read More…)

Clemson falls to North Carolina, 92-87

The Clemson Tigers blew a big second-half lead and certainly regretted it in a 92-87 overtime loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Tigers became the second team in as many days to build a big lead against the Tar Heels only to fall apart down the stretch.

Demontez Stitt had a monster game, pouring in 25 points and dishing out four assists to lead the way for the Tigers.

Clemson had four different players finish in double figures and a number of guys finished with five or more rebounds. (Read More…)

Clemson comes up just short against North Carolina, 64-62

The Clemson Tigers came up just a little bit short in a 64-62 loss to the No. 21 North Carolina Tar Heels.

Demontez Stitt lead the Tigers with 17 points while Milton Jennings came off of the bench to score 15.

Clemson killed itself from behind the three-point arc and at the free throw line, shooting poorly from both areas.

They were able to outrebound North Carolina 44-34 but had 16 turnovers to just nine for the Tar Heels. (Read More…)

Tigers face tough defense at Meineke Car Care Bowl

By Bud L. Ellis

The Clemson Tigers head to the Meineke Car Care Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Charlotte knowing they have a great defense.

That’s the good news. The bad news? Clemson’s offense is going to have to try and score against an equally great defensive unit in the South Florida Bulls. (Read More…)

Clemson falls to Florida State, 16-13

The visiting Clemson Tigers saw their ever slim ACC title chances officially come to an end in a 16-13 loss to the Florida State Seminoles.

In what was a heartbreaking loss, the Tigers watched in horror as Dustin Hopkins banged home a game-winning, 55-yard field goal as time expired.

Just moments earlier the Tigers had raced down the field to kick the game-tying field goal in hopes of sending the game into overtime.

Quarterback Kyle Parker played well at times but was once again plagued by inconsistency. He threw for 239 yards and two interceptions. (Read More…)

Clemson rallies past NC State, 14-13

The Clemson Tigers kept their slim ACC title hopes alive by rallying past the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 14-13.

The Tigers looked dead in the water after falling behind by 10 in the third quarter and showing no signs of life on offense.

However, Clemson kept its ever slim Atlantic Division title hopes alive by playing well over the final 20 minutes.

Quarterback Kyle Parker, who has been inconsistent all year, finally woke up and threw for 214 yards and a touchdown. (Read More…)

Clemson retires Spillers number

The Clemson Tigers officially made former running back C.J. Spiller a legendy by retiring his number at halftime of the win over Maryland.

It was an emotional scene for Spiller, who began the day by leading the team down the hill in the end zone to the field.

He then watched at halftime as the Tigers officially retired his No. 28, which will never be worn again at Clemson.

Spiller said that he was happy he decided to stay all four years at Clemson rather than make an early jump to the NFL. (Read More…)

Clemson falls short against Miami, 30-21

The Clemson Tigers didn’t have the offensive firepower to keep up with the Miami Hurricanes in a 30-21 loss.

The Clemson defense had no answer for the passing game of Miami, especially wideout Leonard Hankerson.

Hankerson finished with three of quarterback Jacory Harris’ four touchdown passes and nearly 150 yards receiving.

It also didn’t help that quarterback Kyle Parker had one of the more forgettable days of his college career. (Read More…)
